Lisa Batiashvili and I,CULTURE Orchestra, to play on Madain Square in Kiev

Lisa Batiashvili and the I,Culture Orchestra created by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in 2011 and conducted by Kirill KArabits will perform a concert in Kiev on Maidan square in the Ukrainian Independence day on August 24th. Lisa Batiashvili and the ICO’s contribution comes in two parts. The programme will open with a concert at the National Opera House of Ukraine, where the musicians will perform the Ukrainian national anthem, Ukraine has not yet died; Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major, Op. 19; by internationally acclaimed violinist Lisa Batiashvili and Leoš Janáček’s Taras Bulba; in the second part of the performance at the Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti).

Lisa Batiashvili said prior to the concert: “I think music IS the language that brings peoples and nations together more than any other language. Working, traveling and performing together will certainly bring the participants of the I, CULTURE Orchestra closer, as they will get to know each other’s personalities better and better each day… This is the best basis for friendship between all these countries on the highest cultural level.”

The I, CULTURE Orchestra is a team of very talented young musicians from Poland and Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, created by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in 2011. The mission of the I, CULTURE Orchestra is to support positive changes in cultural and social development of Central European and South Caucasus countries by implementing initiatives of highest artistic value. The Orchestra is based on universal values of solidarity, integration, and freedom. As an educational project, the ICO enables young talents to change the perspective on the artistic reality and improve their skills under the guidance of distinguished instrumentalists from the world’s leading orchestras. The ICO was established in 2011 as a flagship project of the International Cultural Programme of the Polish Presidency of the EU.

The ICO has completed 4 residencies as well as 29 concerts in 22 cities in 15 countries
