Lisa Batiashvili has been named Musical America’s 2015 Instrumentalist of the Year. The annual Musical America Awards was established in 1960, recognising artistic excellence and achievements in the arts.

This year’s ceremony will take place in December at the Century Club, New York. Batiashvili will join four fellow honourees: Peter Sellars, Artist of the Year; John Luther Adams, Composer of the Year; Gianandrea Noseda, Conductor of the Year; and Christine Goerke, Vocalist of the Year.

As 2014/15 Artist-in-Residence of New York Philharmonic, Batiashvili appears with the orchestra in three different programmes this season, including for the US premiere of Escaich’s Concerto for violin and oboe with Francois Leleux under Alan Gilbert. Other US highlights include concerts with The Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, both in Philadelphia and on tour in Europe, and a recital tour (Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Princeton) with pianist Paul Lewis.
