The residency will feature Batiashvili in three programmes in autumn 2014.

On 18 September Batiashvili opens the orchestra’s season with Brahms’ Violin Concerto under Chief Conductor Thomas Hengelbrock. In November she presents a chamber orchestra programme without conductor, including Bach’s E-Major Concerto, BWV.1042, and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence. In December she concludes her residency with the world premiere of Thierry Escaich’s new Concerto for violin and oboe, alongside her husband, oboist François Leleux, and the orchestra’s former Principal Guest Conductor, Alan Gilbert.

Batiashvili, who lived in Hamburg between the ages of 12 and 20, first appeared with the NDR Sinfonieorchester in 2003 and has returned regularly since. She last played with the orchestra in October 2012, performing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto under Thomas Hengelbrock.

In demand on both sides of the Atlantic, Batiashvili is also Artist in Residence with the New York Philharmonic in the 2014/15 season.
