For almost 20 years, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, founded by Daniel Barenboim and Edward W. Said, has been a global ambassador of cultural understanding in the music world. It’s comprised of young artists from Israel, Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Iran and other countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Lisa Batiashvili, who has worked closely with Daniel Barenboim for many years, will perform with them on August 19 at the Berlin Waldbühne. She will play Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, one of the central works of the Romantic repertoire. This is her first collaboration with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.

The program is complemented by two of Claude Debussy’s most famous compositions to celebrate his centenary: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and the symphonic poem La Mer.
